A nationwide payroll audit of Ghana’s Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) is currently underway, starting from May 20, 2025. The audit, conducted by the Auditor-General’s office, aims to verify the legitimacy of employees on the government payroll and identify potential ghost names and financial irregularities. This exercise covers the period from January 2023 to December 2024. The audit is a comprehensive verification exercise, encompassing all entities on the government payroll and those receiving government subventions. It seeks to ensure that only legitimate employees are paid and to detect any instances of payroll fraud or financial inefficiencies.
