On Tuesday 17th June, 2025, the Sanitation and Health Sub-Committee held its first meeting of the year 2025 at the Assembly’s Conference Room. The meeting was attended by all Hon. Members, Municipal Environmental officer’s, NADMO Officer, Municipal Health Director and the Assistant Director II B of the said committee. The agenda for the meeting was to discuss:
• To oversee and promote proper sanitation, waste management, and environmental cleanliness within the Assembly’s jurisdiction
• To ensure the provision and monitoring of accessible and quality healthcare services, and promote public health within the Assembly.
• Oversee waste collection and disposal
• Monitor drainage systems and public toilets
• Promote clean-up exercises and campaigns
• Support proper management of landfill and refuse sites
• Recommend sanitation infrastructure improvements
• Monitor local health service delivery (clinics, CHPS compounds)
• Promote public health campaigns (immunization, maternal health)
• Support disease surveillance and outbreak response
• Liaise with the District Health Directorate
• Advises the Assembly on health and sanitation policies and actions.
• Makes recommendations to the Executive Committee and the Assembly on improving sanitation services
• Work with NGOs, community leaders, and traditional authorities
• Engage schools and religious bodies in health campaigns
• Coordinate sanitation projects with donor agencies
• Helps prevent diseases like cholera and malaria
• Ensures clean, livable communities
• Promotes public awareness of hygiene and health issues
• Enhances the quality of life for residents
• Supports the achievement of national and global health goals (e.g., SDGs)
