CLOSED FISHING SEASON : HON. FRANK OKPENYEN DISTRIBUTES FOOD ITEMS TO SUPPORT FISHERFOLKS IN AXIM

The Municipal Chief Executive of Nzema East, Hon Frank Okpenyen has distributed food items to fisherfolks along the coast of Nzema East at a brief ceremony in Axim on 21st July, 2021.

With the advent of the closed fishing season, the NPP Government instituted this initiative to alleviate the hardships of fishermen, and fishmongers.

Addressing the teeming crowd, Hon. Frank Okpenyen thanked President Nana Akufo Addo for this great vision aimed at improving the well being of the fisherfolks. He cited the construction of the Axim Sea Defence wall, the Axim mini Harbour, the timely supply of premix fuel, the distribution of outboards motors etc as some of the key initiatives and landmark projects by the NPP Government in the Municipality. He further advised the fishermen to avoid negative fishing practices that can affect ocean life.

Hon. Frank Okpenyen distributed close to three thousand five hundred 5kg bags (700 hundred bags) of rice, to beneficiaries in the following fishing communities; Akyinim, Brawire, Anto Brawire, Amanfukumam, Solorh, Boatase, James Town, Anto Apewosika, Apewosika, Nkekeim, Akonu, Agyan and Domunli. Other items distributed include cooking oil and spices.

In attendance were leadership of the fishing community in Axim namely; Nana Kojo Bentil, Nana Kojo Pagu, Konkonhemaa Abelema and Nana Kofi Annan.
