NZEMA EAST MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY PROPOSED OFFSHORE EXPLORATORY WELL DRILLING PROJECT UPDATE OF PRELIMINARY ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT AND STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT HELD ON WEDNESDAY, 30TH SEPTEMBER, 2026 AT THE HEALTH DIRECTORATE CONFERENCE ROOM-AXIM

GOSCO, now OSWT & EK Operating Company Ghana Limited (“OPCO”), operator of the Offshore South-West Tano Licence (OWST), through the Centre for Environment and Health Research and Training (CEHRT), an Environmental Consultant engaged key stakeholders in the Nzema East Municipality. The engagement, which came off on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 focused on the Preliminary Environmental Assessment (PEA) for the proposed drilling of one (1) offshore exploration well in the Offshore South-West Tano Licence area.

The stakeholders included officers and representatives from the Nzema Municipal Assembly, Environmental Protection Authority, Fisheries Commission, Ghana National Canoe Fishermen Council (GNCFC), Canoe Fishermen & Gear Owners’ Association (CAOA), National Fish Processors & Traders Association (NAFPTA), Canoe Council Women’s Wing and the Landing Beach Committee.

GOSCO undertook a Preliminary Environmental Assessment in 2019 for the proposed drilling programme and subsequently submitted a Preliminary Environmental Report (PER) to the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) as part of the environmental permitting process. The proposed drilling programme was however disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

OPCO, which now intends to proceed with the exploration drilling programme has therefore commissioned an update of the environmental assessment to reflect the current project activities and prevailing environmental and social conditions, in accordance with the Environmental Protection (Environmental Assessment) Regulations 2025 (LI 2504), to support the environmental permitting process.

Stakeholders expressed concern about effect of the oil and gas operations on their livelihoods and called on the Government to intervene.
