PRESENTATION OF RELIEF ITEMS BY THE NZEMA EAST MUNICIPAL CHIEF EXECUTIVE ON BEHALF OF THE MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT FOR EVALUE-AJOMORO-GWIRA CONSTITUENCY TO FLOOD VICTIMS AT GWIRA ESHIEM AND ADAKLEZU ON THURSDAY, 25TH JUNE, 2026.

The Municipal Chief Executive of Nzema East Municipal Assembly, Hon. Herbert Kuah Dickson accompanied by the Municipal National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) Director and staff, on behalf of the Member of Parliament for Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira Constituency, Hon. Kofi Arko Nokoe, has presented relief items to flood victims in Gwira Eshiem and Adaklezu.

The two communities were among the worst affected following the heavy rains and overflow of the Ankobra River in the month of June, 2026, which rendered over 400 households homeless and destroyed farmlands.

The MCE addressed that the Assembly and the MP, Hon. Kofi Arko Nokoe are deeply concerned about the hardship caused by the recent floods that submerged homes, destroyed foodstuffs and displaced families not only in Gwira Eshiem and Adaklezu but almost all the communities in the Gwiraman particularly those closer to the Ankobra River. He added that because of pressing parliamentary duties in Accra, MP tasked him to present these items to the people on his behalf and to assure them that they have not been forgotten.

The items presented included rice 25kg 60bags, maize 60bags, oil 10 boxes, tin tomato and sachet water 80bags. The donation was intended to provide immediate succour to over 200 affected households in the two communities which would be extended to other affected communities in the Gwira land. The distribution would be supervised by the Hon. Assembly members, Unit Committee members and NADMO to ensure fairness. The long-term work continues.

Hon. Kuah Dickson stated that the Municipal Assembly has engaged the traditional authorities to allocate a higher ground land for relocation to mitigate the perennial flooding.

He assured the people that the Assembly together with the MP remains committed to mobilizing further support from the central government and development partners for reconstruction and flood mitigation works in the area. He mentioned that NADMO and Works Department had been engaged to complete the damage assessment report for onward submission to the central government. NADMO officials on site have been tasked to continue monitoring and to educate residents on flood preparedness.
