The Nzema East Municipal Assembly led by the Chief Executive, Hon. Herbert Kuah Dickson collaborated with Betterland Ghana Limited, engaged the traditional authority and the people of Gwira Banso on ongoing mineral exploration activities on Wednesday, 24th June 2026, at Gwira Banso Community Center. In attendance were Municipal Coordinating Director, Municipal Works Engineer, Assistant Director IIA, MIS Officer, and Officers from the Minerals Commission, Environmental Protection Agency, Forestry Commission and Axim Divisional Police Command of Ghana Police.
The meeting discussed the ongoing mineral exploration activities at Gwira Banso and engaged stakeholders on matters relating to community development, environmental protection, and stakeholder participation.
This crucial engagement focused on:
1. Educate the community on the exploration work currently underway.
2. Demonstrate the socio-economic benefits of mining to local development.
3. Assure the public of our strict commitment to environmental protection and forest preservation.
4. Reinforce the principle of inclusive collaboration with all relevant stakeholders.
As key stakeholder in the development of the Municipality, Betterland Ghana Limited sort the opportunity to not only clarifies its operations but also demonstrated that responsible mining can coexist with environmental stewardship and community welfare.
The officials from the Minerals Commission, Environmental Protection Agency, and Forestry Commission assured the people that the company has obtained a legal mining lease from the State after meeting all the necessary regulatory requirements to undertake the exploration and also mine on their land. The Divisional Police Command also guaranteed the people of its readiness to ensure that peace and protection of human lives and property are in place.
The Municipal Chief Executive appealed for community cooperation for the full benefits that come with large scale mining. He entreated the company to comply by all regulations instituted by the State and also comply by the local content policy which will promote full community support by the people of Gwiraman.
The Chief of Gwira Banso, Nana Ette Agrade II on behalf of his elders and the community assured of their commitment to embrace this business opportunity that will uplift the image of the community as large scale mining comes along with a lot of opportunities and development.
