ENVIRONMENTAL AND SANITATION SUB-COMMITTEE MEETING HELD ON 21ST AUGUST, 2023.

The Environment Sub-Committee, one of the sub-committees of the Municipal Assembly at its 2nd Regular Meeting held on Monday, 21st August 2023, at the Nzema East Municipal Conference Room, deliberated on issues of important in the Environmental Health and Sanitation Sector of the Municipality.

The main issues on the agenda were:

Discussions on public toilet facilities. 

Members at the meeting raised concerns about the management of public toilet facilities in Axim especially with regard to non-payment of franchise fees due to the Assembly by some of the operators/ managers. The house was also of the view that, an upward adjustment on fifty Ghana Cedis (Ghc 50.00) fee pay to the Assembly is even long overdue and Management should do something about it.

Discussion on the clean-up exercise.

The house bemoaned the inability of most of the Assembly members to organize regular clean-up exercise in their respective electoral areas and appealed to them to whip up the communal spirit in their electorates.

Updates on Dog Vaccination in the Municipality.

Committee members were briefed on an on-going Sensitization programme on rabies prevention and dog vaccination in the municipality which is sponsored by Breakthrough Action. So far 200 dogs were vaccinated against rabies in Dadwen, Ayisakro, Nsein, Akyim, part of Axim, Ndatiem. In view of this, the house is appealing to the Assembly to help sustain the programme especially dog vaccination to cover the remaining communities.
