The Nzema East Municipal Assembly (NEMA) on Friday morning together with the Church of Pentecost Axim Area, Forestry Commission and the rest of the nation to plant trees in the Municipality to mark the fourth (4th) edition of Green Ghana Day-2024.
The Green Ghana Day was instituted by the Government in 2021 through The Ministry of Lands, Forestry and Natural Resources, and the Forestry Commission, as part of an aggressive national afforestation programme to restore the lost forest cover of the country and to contribute to the global effort to mitigate climate change.
Under the theme: “Growing for Greener Tomorrow” the 2024 Green Ghana Day targeted the planting of 10 million tree seedlings throughout the Country.
Five Hundred trees were planted at the end of the exercise across the Municipality.
In the Nzema East Municipality, The Chief of Lower Axim, planted the first tree, Nerium Oleander, popularly known as Rosebay, (a flowering shrub) at Roman JHS School in Axim, to begin the exercise.
In attendance were Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD), Municipal Education Director, Honorable Presiding Member, Municipal Divisional Commander, The Chief of Lower Axim, Municipal Budget Officer, Municipal Finance Officer, Municipal Physical Planning Officer, Municipal Development Planning Officer and the Church of Pentecost Axim Zone District Pastors.
