The Municipal Chief Executive of the Nzema East Municipality, Hon. Frank Okpenyen on Thursday, 11th February, 2021 received a 4-unit JHS classroom block on behalf of 3 adjoining communities; Akonu, Agyan and Domunli in the Nzema East Municipality. The new school block was built under the the auspices of the GNPC foundation.
Addressing the gathering, Hon. Frank indicated that education is the greatest gift that can be bestowed upon a child. He further stressed that the NPP government had shown massive interest in the educational infrastructure of the three communities as it was under the erstwhile President Kuffuor’s regime that a 6-unit classroom block was provided for them. He mentioned that the 4 unit block will contain an ICT centre. He also touched on some infrastructural developments in the educational sector that were ongoing in the constituency.
Dr. Dominic Eduah enumerated that the GNPC Foundation was responsible for using proceeds from Ghana’s oil to engage in developmental initiatives in the country. He indicated that it was necessary to ensure that a child in Domunli/Akonu/Agyan had the same level of quality education as a child in Sekondi-Takoradi, the Western Regional of Ghana thereby creating equal opportunities for all. He further entreated all the stakeholders to ensure that the new school block was put to efficient use and the facility be well maintained to serve its purpose to the fullest.
The Municipal Director of Education,Mr. Nathaniel Kojo Afful thanked Hon. Frank Okpenyen and the GNPC Foundation for providing them with a new classroom block. He indicated that the students had to commute long distances to get junior high school education which led to a decline of education in the community. He indicated that the school will have a positive impact on the lives of students in the community. He further assured the MCE and the GNPC Foundation of ensuring the proper maintenance of the school.
The Chief Executive Officer for GNPC Foundation, Dr. Dominic Eduah also took the opportunity to hand over 3 sanitary facilities to the three communities; Agyan-a 12 seater facility, Akonu-a 6-seater facility and Domunli- a 6 seater facility. The occasion was graced by Presiding Member of the Nzema East Municipality, Chairman Nana Effate Beyeman, Queenmother of the community Obaahemaa Assifuah, party sympathisers and community folks.
