The Western
Regional Minister, Dr. Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah and his entourage visited
Nzema East Municipality to engage the staff in discussions on how to improve
the Assembly and to inspect the progress of work on government initiatives in
the municipality. The Regional Minister after his engagement with the staff, proceeded
to inspect ongoing developmental projects in the municipality with the Municipal
Chief Executive of Nzema East Municipal, Hon. Dorcas Elizabeth Amoah, Municipal
Coordinating Director, Works Engineer and some few others. The team first
inspected the Axim Youth CENTRE which comprises a 5,000-seater sports stadium,
hostels, space for indoor games, and stores. The phase II of the work which is
about 85% complete will be completed in November 2022.
They
then proceeded to inspect the Axim fishing harbour’s construction. The maritime
works, including the reclaiming of sea land, sea defense walls, and boat/ship
landing site, are 100% finished, consultants told the minister. The remaining
projects, which include building a daycare center, cold store, restroom,
dressing room, fish market, area for mending nets, etc., are 60% finished.
The Regional
Economic Planning Officer, Regional Budget Officer, Regional Commander for the
Western Command of the Ghana Immigration Service, Regional Commissioner of the
Ghana Revenue Authority, and other members of the Minister’s entourage were
given a brief tour of Fort St. Antonio in Axim. The regional administration is
determined to fully capitalize on the Fort, the first structure that Europeans
built in West Africa after the Elmina Castle, for the development of the Nzema
East Municipality.
