The Western Regional Minister, Hon. Okyere Darko Mensah, in his remarks expressed his profound gratitude to all dignitaries, Hon. Members and invited guests for honoring the Municipal Assembly’s invitation. He then beseeched the Hon. Members to support and confirm His Excellency the President’s nominee Mr. Eric Essien as the Municipal Chief Executive for Nzema East Municipal Assembly and assured them that the Electoral Commission would ensure a smooth, fair and transparent confirmation process.
The Hon. Presiding Member, noted that, section 20 (1) of the 1992 constitution states that, the President shall nominate a member to be voted on as the Municipal Chief Executive by not less than two-thirds (2/3) majority of members of the District Assembly present.
Mrs. Abigail Aikins, the Electoral Commissioner noted that, two-third (2/3) majority of members of the Hon. Assembly Members were required to approve His Excellency the President’s nominee and members would vote “Yes” to confirm or “No” to reject the nominee.
Subsequently, the election was successfully conducted and the President’s nominee, Mr. Eric Essien won with twenty-seven (27) votes of “Yes” which represents seventy-three (73%) of the total votes cast as against ten (10) who voted “No”.
The Western Regional Minister, Hon. Okyere Darko Mensah swore in Hon. Eric Essien as the Municipal Chief Executive of the Nzema East Municipal Assembly and the Municipal Magistrate Her Worship Awo Amissah-Fringe also administered the Oath of Secrecy, Oath of Allegiance and the Official Oath accordingly.
The New MCE elect, Hon. Eric Essien, in his speech, extended his hefty gratitude to His Excellency the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo and the Hon. Assembly Members of Nzema East Municipal Assembly for the honor brought to him. He said, he will put in all his effort to ensure that, His Excellency the President’s vision he has for the country was achieved. He again, extended his heavy appreciation to the Regional Minister Hon. Okyere Darko Mensah and all members whose contributions had brought him this far.
